Val Holler is an alternate artist name for singer/songwriter Kanude from the mid-1990s to mid-2000s, while based primarily in New York City, Los Angeles, Berlin, Germany and Houston, Texas.
The "Val Holler Band EP" was recorded and mixed in the summer of 1997 by Vinny Nobile (Mighty Mighty Bosstones, The Pilfers) at SUB2H studio at 262 Mott St. in Manhattan, New York. The songs were composed in the mid-90s after Holler departed from his 9-piece synth pop band Mind Over Matter (subsequently renamed The 47th Rhyme over a name dispute), which recorded demos and performed around New York between 1993 and 1995.
"Versicle" was produced by Brad Albetta (Martha Wainright, Teddy Thompson, Sean Lennon) and Val Holler and recorded June 1998 at Monkey Boy Irwin Studios on 47 Murray St in lower Manhattan in the studio below Sonic Youth. The album featured in-demand New York area session musicians and was engineered and mixed July 1998 by John Campose and Brad Albetta. This record was mastered by Grammy-winning mastering engineer Emily Lazar at The Lodge right after she started business.
Much later in 2024, a previosly unreleased 7-song solo EP was released that was recorded live to 2-track in August 1996, exhibiting the singer/songwriters solo performing roots.
