Vassilis Antonas

The music is born in my subconscious. Sometimes just before I fall asleep and sometimes long after. More often than not, I master the courage to pick up my mobile phone and record. Sometimes I sleep afterwards. The next day, it is nowhere to be found, except my voice notes. The humming recording gives its place to a piano recording and the piano recording gives its place to a music sheet. Sort of a music sheet. I can’t read or write music, not in the traditional sense, anyway. The lyrics are harder to come by. It is either a poetry collection or trying to make a rhyme of my life-or other people’s lives for that matter. It’s hard labour.

I wanted to include everything in my first CD, “Fota Skias”. I more or less managed it, bringing in at least 30 people in. Angelos Sfakianakis, my producer, found the time for me and my music, providing his knowledge and expertise; my music manager and piano teacher, Katerina Nikoloutsou, brought it all together, like no one else ever could; Nikos Papadopoulos, orchestrated and guaranteed top quality mixing.

Yiannis Koutras and Aimilia Sarri, my childhood heroes, provided gravitas. Thodoris Kotonias, brought just about the right amount of nostalgia; Penny Baltatzi, was a dynamic breath of fresh air; Pantelis Theocharidis, verified that a golden voice, is a gift you are born with. Our two youngsters, Yiannis Georganos and Maria Alamani, proved that the future belongs to them; and their voice.
