Born in Winnipeg but raised mainly in London, Ontario, this singer/songwriter spent many years honing and perfecting her craft around the Toronto bar circuit and also performing along Nashville's legendary Music Row. Violet Ray's big break came when she performed in the annual Bluebird North songwriters showcase and performing alongside the Skydiggers and Jane Siberry. In 2001, she began working with Steve Fox on her debut album, releasing "Workin' It Out" as the first single in July 2001. A video for the song was shot in Mexico City and aired on CMT. In 2002, Ray released Good Things on Climb It Records. Three of the singles from the album hit the Top 40 on Canadian country music charts. She has been compared to Bonnie Raitt and Mary Chapin Carpenter for her mix of blues delivery and country leanings. ~ Jason MacNeil, Rovi
