Russian-German composer Vladimir Genin was born in 1958 in Moscow. In 1983, he graduated from the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory. His mentor, Georgy Sviridov, was a student of Dmitri Shostakovich. Since 1996, Genin has lived and worked in Munich. The New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians devotes an entry to his work.
Genin’s compositions have been performed by major orchestras, ensembles, and choirs across Europe, Russia, and the USA — including the Graz Philharmonic, Mariinsky Orchestra under Valery Gergiev, and Orchestra di Bologna under Oksana Lyniv — at festivals such as Pietrasanta in Concerto, Hohenloher Kultursommer, Moscow Autumn, MozArt Lviv, and Gori Choral Festival.
Performers include Valeriy Sokolov, Tim Hugh, Simon Smith, Hansjörg Albrecht, Rebekka Hartmann, Christopher Ainslie, and Olga Domnina.
Recent premieres: his two Rilke-based operas Alkestis and Orpheus. Eurydike. Hermes (Boulez Hall, 2023) and Accordion Concerto (Berlin Philharmonic Hall, 2024).
