Vlimmer is a Berlin-based one-man band drawing inspirations from various genres like post-punk, darkwave , shoegaze, industrial, goth, dreampop, noise and indie rock. It was formed in 2015 by Alexander Leonard Donat with the aim to create a dark version of atmospheric music that wasn't (dark) ambient.
After an 18-EP series (2015-2020) Vlimmer released his debut album, "Nebenkörper", in 2021, a seething black mass of tribal industrial/post-punk. Belgian blog TURN UP THE VOLUME called it, "Götterdämmerung 2021 - a non-stop tsunami of synth-scary doom and gloom thunder". A year later, the Berliner unleashed the follow-up, "Menschenleere", which BANDCAMP (New and Notable) labeled as, "danceable darkness", while French magazine TWICE called it, "darkwave 2.0 - roaring and terrifying". In 2023 Vlimmer released the third album in two years: "Zerschöpfung". German website UNTER.TON found praise: "[N]o exaggeration to say that the musician is now one of the most important Goth protagonists. [...] Absorbs everything that the black scene has to offer musically in order to create something completely original in the end."
Now, being on his way to the fourth album, Vlimmer drops a first hint of what's to come. The electronic "Mauertipp" offers urgent vocals sitting in a wave of relentless and minimalistic drums, dissonant and haunting zithers, propelling and futuristic synths with unexpected twists The yet untitled LP is expected later this year.
