Vox Mortem is a Brazilian Thrash Metal band formed in 2004 with influence of 80’s bands from Brazil such as: Sepultura, Ratos de Porão, Dorsal Atlântica, The Mist, Atômica, MX, Sarcófago, among others. In addition, Vox Mortem is inspired by a mix of diverse subgenres of American and European 80’s and 90’s Metal, such as Thrash Metal, Hardcore and Death Metal.
The current lineup is composed of: Rafael Leone (Bass/Vocals), Flavio Monteiro (Drums), Esaú Xavier (Lead guitar/backing vocals) and Jean Rezende (Rhythm guitar).
The name ‘Vox Mortem’ is a tribute to the Brazilian poet Augusto dos Anjos. The name of the band translates the title of their famous poem 'Vozes da Morte' into Latin. Like Augusto, the band is also inspired by the poems of Souza and Cruz. Both the authors bring up various social and personal issues and talk about the chaotic reality that surrounds us.
Vox Mortem independently released the following productions: two demos in 2005 and 2006 (with Frank Donato on guitar); in 2008 the album ‘The Worst Creature’ (with Rodrigo Coutinho on guitar); in 2015 the EP Endless Karma (as a trio, since Jean Rezende only joined the band after this release); at the end of 2017 the new album ‘Slaves of Vanity’ (with Eduardo Martins on bass and vocals) was released.
After that, the EP Mors Ultra was released with John Bryan on vocals, re-recording 3 songs from Slaves of Vanity and after that two more singles until John amicably left the band.
