Wailing Keys is a Copenhagen-based indie rock project formed by Layla Tinneberg and Emil Lundbak.
Their sound lives somewhere between the grand, immediate energy of rock and the introspective intensity of indie pop and alt-rock—always with an ear for the catchy and emotionally stirring. The vocals are vibrant and present, with moments of powerful, cathartic release. Lyrically, Wailing Keys explores themes of longing, hope, regret, and personal growth.
The project was born from the creative meeting between Layla (Lyla Haifa) and Emil (Isogenic) in the dimly lit, smoke-filled studios of Islands Brygge, where they bonded over record exchanges and decided to merge their distinct styles. The result is a sonic space that embraces expansive guitars, emotive vocals, and drums pushed forward in the mix.
Their first five songs came together in an intuitive, creative burst, written over a short period and later refined in the studio.
Wailing Keys released their debut single “Whatever” on June 13, 2025—a yearning anthem shaped by introspective storytelling, sweeping guitar and synth textures, and a groovy structure where the duo’s love of live drums takes center stage.
Wailing Keys is a curious and thoughtful new presence on the Danish indie scene, seamlessly balancing nostalgic tones with a deeply felt and present performance.
