A move to Chicago precipitated a new chapter in which Walker focused less on music and more on life. The growth he experienced culminated in two independently released albums: Phew and Good Man, which featured in Lyrical Lemonade and the Chicago Tribune.
His social media presence caught the attention of The Voice, who asked him to audition. He was cast, but elected not to participate–opting instead to hone his craft and build a life as a working musician.
Walker has since released collaborations with major Jazz Pop artists like Anthony Lazaro and Jason LaPierre. He’s written an original composition for Netflix’s Lost in Starlight, reached 170k monthly listeners on Spotify, and has been featured on numerous editorial playlists. He regularly performs at Chicago jazz clubs like Andy’s and Dorian’s.
“The popular music of the past has done so much to help me connect with the deepest parts of myself,” Walker says. “It depresses me to see popular music in such a shallow, commercialized state. I want to be a voice in the culture that shows us that widely accessible music can also be deep, humanistic and hand-crafted.”
