In Germany they used to call this „Fun-Punk“. But this Band – the alter ego of the Spermbirds and one of the leading german punkrockers in the eighties and nineties - was actually never really that funny (at best silly, sometimes). And musically, their punk style, although British influenced, it is so much more than just rough guitars, quippy lyrics and football-crowd-choruses. There is also a strong influence of late seventies new wave, pubrock and powerpop. With their fine guitar hooks, their stylistically confident singalong-choruses and their clever use of pop-quotes, sometimes almost beatlelesque, they were always a bit different from the others. And their name, by the way, is dedicated to their hometown´s finest: to the legendary first league-winning football team 1. FC Kaiserslautern with its iconic captain Fritz Walter.
