We Look Like Scholars are a two-piece alternative rock band from Cincinnati and Columbus, Ohio. Zach Sebastian and Steven Ostroske met while attending the Audio Production school of Ohio University in 2010 and quickly bonded over music.
During their time in school, they began playing music together and writing various different styles of music, from stupid joke jingles to deathcore tracks. While both Zach and Steven had their own solo acoustic singer/songwriter projects, they featured each other on their early EP releases. Over time, they started bouncing ideas off of each other and a natural progression into a post-rock sound occurred and the duo began to flesh out these sounds.
From 2011-2013, the first EP was written and the band was named "Ingest the Cassette." However, while dressed up for a "fancy" college party, a friend had mentioned that they "looked like scholars." The joke stuck after repeatedly saying "dude, we look like scholars!" The band name changed and Ingest the Cassette became the EP name.
After college, the band took a short hiatus and began writing for the next EP in 2015. While writing remotely between two cities, the process was on and off, but during the 2020 pandemic, the duo finished writing the rest of their debut full length album. "w a v e l e n g t h s" was recorded in a cabin in August of 2022 in Hocking Hills, Ohio to get back to their college roots and focus on great performances, while refocusing their sound for a wider audience.
