Hawaii born recording artist Wela is establishing a strong following off the heels of her soul touching undeniably smooth voice and authentic candor on recent work like “Bitter” and EP Freak Show. Currently residing in Houston, Wela grew up in the love-centered culture of the Hawaiian islands and was inspired by the virtuous values of life in America's fiftieth state. Her mother would play 90’s R&B throughout the house during her childhood, sparking Wela’s love for the smooth sounding stylistic characteristics coming from artists like Beyoncé and Aaliyah, whom she cites as major influences. Although she frequently sang from the comfort of her room while growing up, Wela’s first experience performing in front of an audience came in the form of an eighth-grade talent show when one of her teachers saw the talent within her and pushed the young Wela to move outside of her comfort zone, catalyzing the fall of the first domino in a chain reaction that has led to the present day.
Vibe-centric in her singing style, one of Wela’s biggest strengths is her ability to connect with listeners around common struggles, expressing in pure format relatable stories that at one time or another we have all faced.
