Welfare are comprised of Bethany Catnip and Jonas Suchanek, and were formed over a common love for '90s grunge and punk-rock, '80s disco-punk and new-wave and '70s freak-rock and glam. Besides creating music together, the duo also produce literature, video and visual art.
Welfare's music is contradictory. The vocals are wild and fragile, the bass is noisy and tight, the drums are hard and minimalistic, creating an energetic and cool cocktail best served live. In 2017 Welfare found their live-drummer (Lucas Olierook), released their debut-EP “Bloody Thrills” and played numerous shows in the Copenhagen area. In 2018 the band started writing more direct and punky material. To capture the new raw energy, Welfare's second EP “In Motion” was recorded live in Angry Music Studios, by Tobias Munk Tønder (Ligæder / The Day We Left Earth / Église / Nordsind), and mastered by Carl Saff (Kill Rock Stars / Sub Pop / Matador). Welfare are currently working on their third EP, which will be released later in 2019.
