Wertyo will take you on a journey you won't soon forget.
Over the past three years, Wertyo has quietly and steadily carved out a niche in the worlds of vaporwave and classical music. Consistently putting out releases and unafraid to drastically pivot sonically, his musical projects are always conceptual in nature and designed to supplement famous works of art (eg. ‘Tartarus’ and ‘The Divine Comedy’). Born Christian Johnson in St. Albert, Alberta in 1994, he took a keen interest in music from an early age. Learning guitar was his first step to becoming a musician, followed by becoming the songwriter of a metal band in high school. No longer interested in writing for a band, Johnson created the alias ‘Wertyo’ and embarked on a mission to produce more conceptual music. Experimenting with the vaporwave genre, two EPs, "Ego Death" and "After Rapture" were released. Capturing an early 90's aesthetic, they carry the listener off into a dreamlike state. Later that year, 'Tartarus' was released to much fanfare. Based on the 14th century poem "Divine Comedy", 'Tartarus' is designed to be listened to as you read, and follows the story of Dante in order from start to finish. A solo piano Album consisting of 25 tracks, it was a stark departure from Wertyo's previous works, showing that he isn't afraid to experiment with new sounds.
