There’s a humbleness about Kirkpatrick’s work; it’s familiar without being formulaic. The intimacy of his songwriting combined with a beautifully distinct voice makes it more than worth a listen. Wes has carved out his own musical sweet spot and lives well within it.
-American Songwriter Magazine.
After spending nearly a decade in Nashville writing song after song soaked in heartbreak and melancholy, Wes found himself burned out, both creatively and personally. “I wasn’t even trying to write sad songs anymore,” he says. “It’s just all that ever came out.” Eventually, the weight of it pushed him back home to the Colorado mountains, hoping something might change.
It did. What followed was a creative reawakening. “It was the spark that reminded me why I started making music in the first place. It was an excuse to spend extra time with my brother, hang out with friends, make memories, and be creative. It all just started coming back during this process.”
Wes’s new EP That Kind of Love is a celebration of rediscovered light. Built on warm folk-pop foundations, vintage tones, and lyrics that search for meaning in the everyday, it’s a testament to the kind of love that changes everything. The kind that sneaks up on you. The kind that brings you home to yourself.
Ultimately, Wes Kirkpatrick doesn’t write love songs. He writes reminders that joy is still possible, that the spark can return, and that it’s not over yet.
