West Coast Hearts is the creative project of singer-songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Rob McLoughlin.
A fixture of New York City’s late-’90s and early-’00s underground indie rock scene, Rob honed his craft playing bass and lead guitar with the Hypertonics, performing at storied venues such as CBGBs, Acme Underground, Luna Lounge, the Elbow Room, and The Continental. He later moved to California, where his sound evolved and deepened as he pursued his voice as both songwriter and recording artist.
In 2018, Rob released his debut solo album, The City & The Sea, which drew critical praise for its sophisticated songwriting and melodic blend of indie rock and pop. Since then, he has built an extensive catalog including Summer’s Heart (2018), Dark Moon (2019), MMXXI (2021), Silent Street (2022), Modern Heartbreak (2024), Days of Gold (2024), Golden Hour (2025), Love & Loss (2025), and When The Light Turns Soft (2025).
His 2026 collection, Empty Orchestra: Volume One, revisits the songs that shaped him. The album offers haunting, intimate reimaginings that turn familiar melodies into raw reflections on memory, influence, and the quiet beauty of discovering one’s own voice within another’s music.
His latest release, Lost Time (2026), continues that exploration of nostalgia, renewal, and emotional resilience—an album that bridges the reflective intimacy of his earlier work with the expansive soundscapes of his most recent projects.
