The Western Minicinex was a popular children’s movie projector produced in the 1970s by the Italian toy company Harbert, aka the “Western Harbert”. A generation of Italian children manually wound western-theme movie clips and comic book scenes around the battery powered bulb of the Western Harbert, projecting on the walls of countless Italian homes black and white images of heroes and villains entangled in exciting adventures in wild, far away lands. The Western Harbert was an icon of childhood dreams and wonder.
From that childhood wonder, their passion for cinema and music inspired guitarist Antonio Pincione and bassist Manu Casu to compose music inspired by movie soundtracks, as well as rock music from the 60s and the 70s, and ultimately to found Western Harbert. Drummer Federico Correrini joined soon after, and in 2023 the band recorded seven unreleased songs on the eponymous album Western Harbert. Musical influences - ranging from psychedelic to progressive rock from the 70s; from Funk to Blues; from Jazz to Latin American melodies and rhythms - blend together on the seven tracks, transporting listeners back to experience those times and their atmospheres. The contributions of Andrea Imparato, woodwind jazz musician, are crucial, as his sax and flute meld and embellish numerous tracks.
