What The Elm is an indie rock band based in Milan and currently composed of 6 people:
• 1 angelic voices (Ilaria Puller)
• 1 good, rough girl on drums (Chiara Groppi)
• 4 bad boys on bass, guitar, piano and sax (Edoardo Mondorio, Vittorio Arioli, Riccardo Di Giuseppe, Mirko Catucci)
Most of them met in a music school, where they soon felt a special energy, so that they started playing together. They enjoyed revisiting some of the rock milestones through sonorities typical of other music genres. Indeed, the teammates have very different tastes in music and just love to mix them.
What The Elm simply believe that differences are a gift, no one should be afraid of them, but rather embrace them, because they can make everything more valuable.
What does the band name mean? Well, it’s a mix of “What the hell” and “Elm”.
The first one recalls the high rate of… Shakesperian poems echoing in the studio whenever a mistake occurs.
The second one is inspired by the last name of their beloved music teacher “Massimo Dall’OLMO”.
Unfortunately, years after the band name was conceived, they realized that his last name is not “Dall’OLMO”, but “Dall’OMO”.
So… as a matter of fact, the band name has no sense at all, but at this point it’s too late to change it.
