After stepping back from music to process a difficult breakup and the sudden loss of her father, recording artist Jordan Michelle is returning with a powerful new chapter — and a new name. The artist, formerly known as Jordan Michelle, will now be releasing music under the moniker whatshername, marking a personal and creative rebirth.
The name Jordan Michelle was originally adopted in 2018 as a tribute to her late brother Jordan, who passed away in 2013. While still honoring the memory of both her brother and her father, the singer felt it was time to evolve her identity in a way that reflected her growth, healing, and vision for the future.
While her earlier work as Jordan Michelle leaned heavily into pop punk, whatshername explores a more mature sound that she describes as hopeful melancholy — music that captures the tension between feeling defeated and holding onto the belief that something better is on the horizon.
Lyrically, the songs touch on themes of disillusionment, heartbreak, resilience, and self-reinvention.“This project is for anyone who’s ever felt invisible, unlucky, or stuck — but still has a tiny voice inside saying, ‘There has to be more than this.’”
