Whim is the solo-guise of Glasgow-based Scottish drummer and musician Liam Chapman, best known for his work with artists C Duncan, Andrew Wasylyk, Peter Broderick and Miaoux Miaoux.
In hazy soft rock reminiscence, Scrolling creates feelings of deep nostalgia and escapism with layers of 70s-esque instrumental timbre and groove. The music blends together these playful yacht rock and jazz-pop influences, yet is poisoned with dark themes...
The lyrics dive in to the world of disconnection and miscommunication within our fast paced era of modern technology; the nostalgia, simplicity and value of human connection; and the monitoring and manipulation from ‘big brother’ in a golden age of surveillance. It refers to digital dementia, over-capacity, pressure of societal presence and status on social media, identity crisis and eroding anonymity. The album will be titled 'Super Impose'.
All of the songs were written and pruduced by Chapman in his Pollokshields flat between 2019 and 2020 with an SM-57 and beaten up Roland keyboard, mostly with a bottle of wine into the dark hours of the night. A majority of the lyrics were written in various locations in Pollok Park, where he would often take to the forests for solace.
