White Witches were begat unto the weatherbeaten shores of West Penwith at different times during the 1970s. They did not meet there.
Fate threw the Cornish duo together for the first time on the same nightshift in a chaotic London newsroom as the Tories squeaked back into power in 2010. Rory Lewarne (vocals) had fronted Sheffield artrockers Pink Grease, while Jeremy Allen (guitar and keyboards) had been in Piranha Deathray and played with Martin Carr, Akira the Don, Lethal Bizzle and others.
They bonded instantly over a shared passion for Roxy Music, Bowie, Gainsbourg, Prince, Ballard and Didion and a vehement hated of the Tories. Foppish Celts with glitter in their veins, they set about making dirty glam rock with a dystopian heart and a Cornish spirit. Live, they are completed by Charlie Webb (Bourgeois & Maurice), Daniel Pencavel (We Are Not Devo) and Pink Grease’s Marc Hoad.
