Will McClean

Will McClean is a Wellington-born hip-hop artist known for his introspective lyrics and evocative melodies, combined with the dynamic energy of his live band.

Youthful but wise beyond his years, the sound of Will McClean is characterised by jazzy saxophone melodies, fluid basslines and lyrics that dive into the depths of vulnerability, creating a cathartic experience for his listeners. Whilst being the ultimate hype man, Will’s main priority, however, is clarifying who, exactly, he represents. The short answer is his family and his friends.

Will’s father was the frontman for a band that formed in the 80’s and is a key part of inspiration to continue his musical legacy. Will has been surrounded by music his whole life and says “with Mum blasting artists like Bob Marley, Lauryn Hill and Fat Freddy’s Drop all day, everyday; I used to be rapping and singing along and it ultimately made me gravitate to creating some for myself".
His ever expanding musical inspirations consist of the likes of Loyle Carner, Tom Scott and J. Cole to name a few.

After a successful run of summer shows that include supporting NZ legends such as Home Brew and then closing out a stage at Rhythm & Vines for the year, McClean is set for another busy year.

Creating music packed with perspective, McClean is a vessel leading the way for people to self-identify alongside and follow on their own journeys.
