World In A Room

World In A Room was one of the most popular and promising bands to come out of the very vibrant alternative music scene around Cleveland, Ohio in the 1990s. Featuring lead singer Jason Kilbey Smith, whose voice was as powerful and iconic as just about any singer on the radio waves, the band made music less grungy than Seattle and more accessible than college rock. They wrote songs about loss, love, and the struggle of finding a place in a changing world.

Rounded out by Jason's brother Kevin Bang on guitar, bassist Tim Brennan, and drummer Don Lisy, WIAR toured the midwest constantly and released two full CDs (1994's Dance On The Stones and 1996's Mood Circus) and two cassette EPs. The success of the Mood Circus CD and constant touring put the band on the precipice of a major label signing when they disbanded suddenly in the late 90s.

In 2024, Fervor Records unearthed this lost gem of an album and bought the rights to Mood Circus, releasing it in July of 2024 with updated mixing and mastering.

Jason and Kevin went on to form Five Minutes Fast. Tim and Don went on to form Transmission (UK). After those bands, Don relocated to NYC and then Texas, creating and selling paintings worldwide. Kevin and Jason continue to record and keep music in their lives. Tim joined alt country band Rambler 454 which has released 4 CDs, then released an album under the name Honeythief that contained two tracks written for WIAR. Tim has also released a string of singles under his own name.
