XANIMAL is Austin’s new producer/musician supergroup comprised
of Ken Christensen (Love Athletics, East Coast Boogiemen), Claude
McCan (Claude9, 35MM, Supercreeps) and Noëlle Hampton (The
Belle Sounds) that shares influences of synthwave, pop, disco and
more. Their creativity feeds off the understanding that their music
doesn’t have to live under predictable confines, but instead should
push genre boundaries and exist in its own space, anchored by
Hampton’s ethereal yet soulful vocals. They want to emerge as a
collective of sorts, similar to Massive Attack/Zero 7, hoping to
collaborate in the future with other artists around the globe that share
this vision.
XANIMAL is primed to release their first single, Love Axis, plus
remixes on New Human Music on September 18 with more on the
horizon. The three multi-instrumentalist/songwriters joined forces to
create a sound based on their common influences such as Yaz, The
Knife, Human League and Blondie, that fills a sonic void in Austin and
beyond. The project started out as Christensen and McCan, but when
they called on Hampton to write and sing on a track they quickly
realized there was some amazing musical chemistry between them
that needed to be pursued, and XANIMAL was born.
