Xquenda is an avant-garde electronic musician based in Portland Oregon. She is inspired by a vast list of musicians such as Death Grips, GFOTY, The Residents, and many other creative musicians.
Her main goal as a musician is to create colorful, psychedelic, and futuristic sounding worlds that reflect what she wishes to hear in music. She approaches this through improvisation (both by freestyle rapping and treating effects as an instrument), creative instrument choices, embracing glitchy textures & techniques, constantly challenging and morphing her comfort zone, and being aware of the musical tools she’ll need for the ideas she has.
Through her lyricism she strives to inspire confidence and self-love in those who listen. She particularly especially believes it’s important for those who are marginalized to boast to show the oppressors that you’ll love yourself regardless of how they want to bring you down. These themes are inspired by her identity as a trans woman and how the world treats her for expressing herself the way she wishes. She wants to form a community with more musicians and is always down to collaborate with other unique artistic voices.
