XULTRA emerges as the ethereal offspring of musical companions Brianna Lee (vocals/guitar) & Josh Barrett (producer/multi-instrumentalist). Branching off from their previous success as leaders of the popular indie rock band B & the Hive, XULTRA was formed out of the necessity to evolve with a changing landscape amidst lockdown and cancelled tours in early 2020.
Unadulterated streams of creativity aligned with concentrated space and time in the studio, allowed the duo to swiftly develop the material behind XULTRA’s sound. This marks the first project and release engineered by the couple where every note and instrument is performed entirely themselves and without their usual backing band.
With alternative elements, XULTRA's modern pop aesthetic runs rich with the duo’s signature for deep emotional undercurrents and thought provoking songwriting. The production, ala Sharon Van Etten & Angel Olsen, features soaring vocals, heavy beats and strong melodic structure, delivering an exhilarating collision of clean edges and wild inspiration.
