I don't talk too much about myself, only in my music. I go by the name Y9sir, that’s just my real name with a 9, cause I love the number 9. I’m from Lagos; the city where it’s always time to party, but the first time I picked up an instrument and began singing was in my high school in Northampton. I played the steel pans, piano & drums and at that point I didn't think much of it but I was heavily fascinated by sounds. I also had dreams of performing on stage with my 2 of my guys and the baddest trio of hotties in school then… on some Styl-Plus shxt. Eventually I came back home & made my first song, when my cousin G-Lammy took a punt on me & threw me on a track. I don't know if you know how it is when you first hear yourself on a song but I guarantee you it’s orgasmic. I was also motivated by artists like Lupe Fiasco, Wizkid, Drake, Paramore & Cruel Santino who are all very different but artistic geniuses in their own realm. I love hip-hop & rock but I grew up on a lot of Afrobeats, and this range is evident in my music. I simply express myself & let the world decide if they understand or not because music is freedom to me; freedom to create, freedom to express, freedom to speak. FREEDOM. Songs like “One Two”, “Bonobo” & “Santana” have moved the hearts of my people & got me on the NATIVE magazine, Cool FM & Beat FM. I realize my music has the potential to be powerful & the story is just beginning. It’s going to be a wild ride, are you ready to surf the wav.?
