Over the last eight years, indie rock band Yam Haus has been working to build something that feels authentic to them. Navigating sonic shifts from pop, to rock, and everywhere in between, the Minneapolis-based trio has done their time, laid their roots, and are now feeling fresher than ever—both in sound, and in mindset. Following their 2023 EP Stupid and Famous and their signing to Big Loud Rock, the band—composed of Lars Pruitt (vocals/guitar), Zach Beinlich (bass) and Jake Felstow (drums)—has come into their own with their latest run of singles. “One Bullet Left,” “Green Lights,” “Spit In My Face,” and “Misery Island” all strike a perfect balance—organic instrumentals paired seamlessly with sleek melodies and catchy hooks to create classic tracks with widespread appeal. Their latest offerings, “Arrest Myself” and “Dollar Store Mansion,” see Yam Haus at their best yet. Sonically, the tracks are fresh and mature, displaying their songwriting chops at full force. They’re polished and intentional, while also unlocking a new level of vulnerability that the band finally feels ready for. “Our goal with our songs is to inspire people—whether it’s a hopeful song, or a self-loathing song. A soundtrack to whatever people are going through,” says Felstow. With a newfound sense of openness paired with their alluring heartland feel, they can continue doing what they’ve set out to do: making music that resonates with people—both their audience, and themselves.
