His stage name is an acronym meaning “You’re Destined for Greatness,” and Dezzii is living up to the title. Originally from Montego Bay, Jamaica, his interest in music began in childhood. He started at just 9 years old, singing in the choir at church and school. Although he is mostly self-taught, YDG Dezzii has taken some instrumental lessons and used to play the piano. His culture is a big part of his sound. Dezzii has been taking his career seriously for several years now, creating the “Trap Hall” subgenre, a unique infusion of Trap Rap and Dancehall techniques. YDG Dezzii listens to a wide variety of artists, pulling inspiration and gaining creativity from each. His influences include Bob Marley, Future, 21 Savage, as well as many others.
