Yissel Lopez
Born on January 17th, 1993 in Salem, OR. She has Wixarika roots from the state of Nayarit, MX from her mother, Tiguereza Perez. At a young age she showed great interest for music. She liked to compete in talent competitions but her ultimate dream was to sing with a mariachi. At eight years old she started to compose her own music and love to dance in-front of the cameras. In middle school she started taking piano lessons and attended choir.
At 18, Yissel went to Chemeketa Community College to study Viticulture. After a year, Yissel left her job and moved to Portland OR. There she started her new career as an optician. On her nights off, Yissel liked to go sing at the local restaurants and bars.
While working, Yissel started working on her dancing. She studied Tribal fusion bellydance under Rachel Brice and Bollywood, Classical Indian Dance, Indian Fusion, and Khalbelia with Colleena Shakti. From a young age Yissel was always intrigued with cultures and languages. She studied a bit of German, Arabic, and Portuguese.
In 2019, Yissel recorded her first single, “Me Dicen la Malandrina” composed by Tiguereza Perez. That same year she launched the music video for her single while also releasing “La Caponera”, “El Gavilancillo”, y “Volver, Volver”.
