For the last few years, 32 -year-old producer, YP on The Beat, has been working on a new Yay Area sound, one that combines the booming, gloopy sound of hyphy, with the regimented high hat and snare cracks of trap music. Through his mixtapes and collaborative EPs, the Richmond born producer has caught the attention of a number of Bay Area rappers, like Chippass, E-40, P-lo, Jay Ant, and Kool John, for whom he’s already made beats.
