Yu Miao began studying music when she was 6 years old. After graduating from the China Conservatory of Music she has emerged as one of China’s most esteemed young guzheng (Chinese zither) virtuosos.

Yu Miao was born in a musical family and has studied the guzheng since childhood. Her unique modern performance style and mix of eastern and western instruments break the limited understanding of the guzheng as an instrument and give a new interpretation of guzheng music. In her works, Yu Miao tries to break through the traditional technical instrumental music and use the guzheng as a means of sound exploration to convey her inner feelings through music. Yu Miao's traditional Chinese music's extra attention to mood and electronic ambient music's exploration of the same frequency range are precisely Yu Miao's legacy in modern music. The French press has described her as "an innovator and exponent of the art of Chinese classical music with a brilliant combination of Chinese contemporary innovation and Western improvisation".
