Yummy Pearl is every woman. As indicated by her name, she is just as much hood, street savvy, and ratchet (“Yummy”) as she is grown, sophisticated, and wise beyond her years (“Pearl”). And, much like Chaka ascended to the pinnacle of Soul and Funk, and Whitney claimed her crown within Pop and R & B, Yummy has her sights set on dominating Hip-Hop in this new millennium.
She certainly has the goods to do so. A native of West Point, GA, Ayanna Johnson grew up in a home with her mom and dad, and her siblings, in the rural, Alabama-adjacent town. She began writing songs when she was 12, using the situations her friends were in as inspiration for her lyrics. It was clear that she had a talent and passion for music, and initially considered becoming a singer. Though those dreams were short-lived, it was when she and her girls found themselves beefing with a rival crew from Lagrange, GA - where they all attended High School - that Ayanna first pivoted her pen and dabbled with rapping. A fire was lit as she discovered another lane where her voice fit perfectly.
Some years, several independently released singles, features, and visuals later, after having served the time for her previous transgressions, Yummy Pearl, partnered with Dare Records, is now – more than ever before – poised to claim her rightful place in the pantheon of female MC’s.
