Heer sings a ballad describing her longing for RANJHA. It is an archetypal metaphor for the bond between Spirit and Matter.
RILLI is a patchwork, made up of moments in the life of a woman.
It starts with a girl, in all her feistiness, demanding "laad" from her mother who is maybe too preoccupied to give her the attention she desires. The girl struggles with this but in the end gives her mother the attention that she herself craves...life goes on...
and one day a Woman wants to play house, but her Man is playing hide and seek. She adorns her house with pieces of her heart but he is too busy working to notice. In her lonely courtyard, resentments grow.
The running stitch of breaths, breaks one day. But Spirit continues it's journey in the dream realm
"I was half while alive and now I'm whole."
I made a patchwork with moments of laughter and tears.

Zainub is a Lahore based artist with a practice of music that is rooted in various indigenous apprenticeship traditions of the Indian subcontinent. Namely khayal Gayaki of Ustad Naseeruddin Saami, Gurbani Sangeet of Bhai Ghulam Muhammad Chand of the Rababi tradition, and Seraiki Kafi of Riaz Qadri. She has had a long run as composer and director of Harsakhiyan (appeared on Coke Studio Pakistan season 12). She is working towards recording songs for release as an independent artist, reinterpreting her favorite classics, as well as creating her originals.
