Zanna Black's first post-uni Brisbane band was called Glacier.
Maybe the name was a pointer to the speed of her future musical output.
“I move slowly, but I keep moving,” she says on the eve of releasing her fourth single Marian, about an old man’s lingering love for the wife he met as a teenager and stayed with for nearly fifty years until she died suddenly of heart failure.
“It’s tragic, but it’s also such a wonderful and rare thing. To love and be loved by the one person for so many years. In the end he lost her, but she will always be with him”.
Zanna sticks mainly to studio work. Her day job is teaching the piano. Her first major recording success was having her song used in the closing titles of the 2016 Australian feature film Burns Point. It also featured on the hit Canadian reality series Hockey Wives.
Zanna's first offering, Sparrow, has been well-received online and she has been performing her original songs alongside bandmates Walter and Angelo Webb at venues around Brisbane since 2022.
