Zeke Locke & The NuXperience is high-energy contemporary gospel act which has backed gospel icons such as Fred Hammond, Donald Lawrence and Sir the Baptist. Now, they are making a lot of noise on their own.
Locke is a Kankakee, Illinois native. He hails from a church-going, musically inclined family. He grew up singing and playing instruments, but he put his music aside for a corporate career. After studying abroad in England, and earning an Olivet Nazarene College business degree, he was an executive at Bunge North America and later, Nucor Steel. At the age of 29, he took a buyout and finally launched his music career. “ I didn’t know anything about producing music,” he recalls. “I bought all of this equipment and for 2-3 years, I spent every day locked away learning everything I could by trial and error. In the beginning, I was doing everything. I did R&B. I did Hip-Hop. I did gospel. Music imitates life. The music and lyrics are a joint thing. I decided that I wanted to tell a different story – the gospel itself.”
Locked formed a gospel group, Ezekiel:767, which began to receive notice for their edgy, urban sound. Soon, he was directing Kierra Sheard's BRL (Bold Right Life) choir, and later the Chicago branch of Deitrick Haddon’s LXW choir.
After the LXW disbanded, Locke formed The NuXperience which has toured with Fred Hammond and collaborated on Donald Lawrence’s acclaimed "Goshen" project. In Spring 2022, the group released its debut single, "I'm Walking."
