Ziemba is the sometimes band/sometimes solo project helmed by composer, writer, producer and perfumer René Kladzyk, who works as an investigative reporter by day. With songs described as “daringly unflinching” by Bandcamp, “electrifying pop and smart balladry” by The FADER, and “heartfelt melodrama” by MTV News, Ziemba is not into subtlety. These are big, capital F “FEELINGS” in sonic form. Ziemba’s most recent album Unsubtle Magic, released on Sister Polygon Records in December 2021, grapples with the holiday season through the lens of grief. The preceding album, 2020’s True Romantic, is a collection of bombastic power ballads. Ziemba’s songs have bounced around the walls of institutions like MoMA Ps1, Pioneer Works, and the French Institute in Fez, Morocco, while also finding safe haven in dive bars and house shows. Kladzyk has composed original scores and had her music featured in a range of TV shows and films, including Broad City, Sky Line, Difficult People, and Shade: Queens of NYC.
