Ever since Pasifika, Western Sydney-born & raised rapper, producer and filmmaker Zion Garcia emerged onto his city’s music circuits, he has made the ground shake. Now, the artist has found his home within fluorescent lights; his long-deserved stardom already being written. His autobiographical debut project ZION GARCIA: (THEATRICAL VERSION) plays out like a vignette to the blockbuster that is “The New Film Star”; the next chapter in the artist’s sonic journey. The project is filled with sentiments of growth, accountability, independence, love, grief and confident delusion. Taking its name from a book he read that explores the Golden Ages of Hollywood, Zion vowed to reclaim space on behalf of the brown folk the book fails to acknowledge. Through dorky, geek rap, melody-heavy cuts and punchy punk-rock elements à la N.E.R.D. and Paris, Texas, Zion Garcia is both rewriting history and “figuring shit out” in real time, inviting the listener to stay for the pre-screening trailers, and wait for the credits to roll.
