Cory Pavlinac has been writing and performing under the name ZOO since 2012. After spending his college years in Nashville, Pavlinac moved back home to Ohio and began making home recordings, mostly alone, after being loaned a 12-track recorder by a former drummer for the Dead Kennedys. A cassette-only release of lofi, bedroom pop came a year later. Up until that point, mostly an introverted endeavor, Pavlinac began connecting with artists in and around the scene in Cincinnati, playing the occasional show with a sampler of backing tracks and a guitar. The Krautrock-psychedelia of Tree of Knowledge came next in 2015 after taking a handful of demos into the studio. ZOO’s next full-length release, the psych-tinged loner folk of No Man’s Land, came out on the other side of the pandemic in 2021 after Pavlinac became a father to two girls. Taking his time and releasing music every few years - perhaps slow by today’s standards - is ok with ZOO’s man-behind-the-curtain. Pavlinac is set to release a 6-song EP titled Singing Underwater with French label Nice Guys in the summer of 2025.
