Zoro

Born amidst the segregation of apartheid-era Cape Town, South Africa, Zoro emerged from the township labeled as Native Yard 9 by the oppressive regime. Growing up surrounded by violence and oppression, Zoro developed an early sense of right and wrong as he witnessed the injustices around him. Despite the harsh conditions, he found solace and purpose in music.
Tragedy struck in 1989 when Zoro was shot by a police officer while intervening to protect a friend. The incident left him paralyzed from the waist down, defying the doctors' grim prognosis that he would never walk again, through sheer determination, Zoro defied the odds, finding strength in music.
Zoro established himself as a prominent figure in Cape Province's reggae scene. Co-founding the Chronic Clan, he nurtured a new generation of South African reggae artists, including the likes of Black Dillinger and Crosby, amongst others. Despite facing numerous challenges, Zoro's commitment to his craft never wavered.
Collaborating with esteemed producers, he embarked on a journey that took him across Scandinavia, sharing stages with internationally renowned artists such as Gentleman, lady saw and Julian Marley to mention a few.
Today, Zoro's music continues to transcend boundaries, carrying the message of peace, equality, and unity championed by Nelson Mandela. Zoro proves that from the depths of adversity, one can rise stronger.
