Hailing from Long Beach, CA, 3rd Alley formed in 2004 after singer/songwriter Zack Walters submitted his demo into the mailbox of Long Beach Records. Mudd, one of the label’s owners passed the demo to local bassist Tyson Parrish, who reported back “we gotta see if this guy needs a band and if so I wanna be in it!” Mudd, also a veteran drummer from the LB punk/surf scene, jumped on the the drum throne and the band was formed.
We played around town, and did some shows with LB Shortbus on the East Coast, getting baptized with fire, playing to rabid crowds as we worked out the songs that became After School Special, our first album. We supported the album by heading up the coast and NV as much as possible and also doing a European Tour with Mongrel from Germany.
With the 2nd album in the works, we added Todd Elrod on drums who had just finished his years with Bargain Music when they decided to hang it up. Todd Forman (Sublime) moved back to Long Beach from LA and augmented the sound with saxophone & keys. Josh Fischel (Bargain Music) produced the album at Total Access in Redondo Beach. Matt Brein stepped in on bass as Tyson went to college. Shiny Shady People came out in 2008, and we supported this one with several tours including “Will Play for Gas Tour” with Josh Fischel and Tomorrows Bad Seeds, a 60 day national tour.
Our 3rd, Shoulda Woulda Coulda was released in 2011 on digital format only, as Smelly (neighbor at the time) told us about “coasters” by NOFX.
