The rap world is in love with Buffalo stories; 7xve’s begins on the city's East Side, where she grew up with her mother. Writing was her passion from an early age. She’d write letters to her mother to read when she came home late from work and eventually expanded her palette into poetry and rhyming. Her family often played Bone Thugs N Harmony, Biggie, and Lauryn Hill, shaping her early hip-hop tastes and inspiring her penmanship. At nine years old, her mother bought her a microphone, and her recordings were so impressive that she ended up at the late DJ Shay’s studio, which was a hub for upstate rappers.
Along with being an MC, 7xve is a software developer who began exploring coding and programming at Tech Talent South But she stayed close to music, building a studio and engineering for other artists. She also found her way onto the radio as a cohost on Buffalo hip-hop station 93.7 for two years before returning to Atlanta
Her stage name, 7xvethegenius, is derived from adopting the moniker 7xve, then adding “The Genius” to it a la Tyler, The Creator, or Chance The Rapper. And for extra spice, the spiritual rapper switched the “L” to a “7” and “Xed” out the “O.” With her considerable skill and unique spelling, 7xvethegenius has a name that’s hard to ignore. And that dynamic will only intensify in 2025, as she’s already hard at work on new music.
