81db formed in April 2006. They finished their first demo at the beginning of November 2006 and then started to look for a label. Their debut, Evaluation, in 2009, was published by EMI in Italy, and was physically distributed by Minos EMI in Greece.
All the fuss that the debut created made the producer Sylvia Massy interested at the project offering the band a chance to work with them at their studios for the upcoming second album that should be published in 2011. The second album of the band called "Impressions" was announced to be released on April 25, 2011, by the UK label Rising Records.
In 2013 the band released its third album, "A Blind Man's Dream", inspired by the movie "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest". In 2017 the band self-released a single track, "The Monkey". Following a hiatus in 2017 due to the departures of William and Filippo, the band released an instrumental EP in 2021 titled The Movie Sessions.
In 2022, Filippo returned on drums and a new chapter began with vocalist Luca Giannoni joining the band. The following year saw the release of A Little Game Called War, a vocal reinterpretation of an instrumental from The Movie Sessions.
In 2025, 81db released Nostos—a bold new album that once again pushes their musical boundaries while staying true to their roots. The release was supported by a Central European mini-tour—marking a powerful return to the stage and hinting at even more to come.
