Aaron Peta is a left-handed Canadian so he must be good, at something. Transplanting from Edmonton and absorbing the character of NYC, his musical influences include artists such as Pavement, Kesha, and Motorhead.
The record "I’m Not A Hipster" ranges from the witty to the achingly honest. From the psychedelic country-rock ballad “Way Home,” to the Ultra-modern “We’re Coming,” with an avant-jazz feel, stylistic diversity is the hallmark of I’m Not A Hipster. Old tube-amps buzz alongside modern synths. Acoustic drums blend with electro-snares, and cliché autotune is sprinkled in novel ways.
The origins of the title track derive from wanting to be separated from Hipsters after living in lofts in Williamsburg for too long.
The track, “Your Songs Have No Form”, was based upon abstract musical streams that lasted for 30 minutes, with strange lyrics off the top of his head. His “Musicdreams" were inspired by a book about how to become a genius.
As a kid Aaron wrote riffs. First piano, then bass riffs, inspired by the hair metal of the time. He got a tape recorder and cataloged his large collection of riffs and progressions which ballooned into hundreds of compositions. At CCNY He won the Jablonsky Scholarship for Jazz/Pop composition.
Aaron traces his musical lineage directly back to Frédéric Chopin. He studied under Stephen Jablonsky, Chair of CCNY Music, who studied under Boulez w.s.u. Messiaen w.s.u. Dukas w.s.u. Georges Mathias. Mathias was a student of Chopin.
