A cousin of the Tobias Brothers (Country Music Hall of Famers) and the granddaughter of film composer Bill Lava, Adie Grey took to the music business while still in junior high, singing in a variety of clubs and coffeehouses. She eventually moved to Los Angeles, pursuing a career as a session vocalist, during which time she made the acquaintance of Albert Lee, amongst others. Lee turned up later on Grey's debut album, Brand New Old Time Music (a Hey Baby! release).

In 1989 she moved to Nashville, ostensibly to pursue a songwriting career. The 1995 release of Brand New Old Time Music provided interested listeners with a contemporary cross-section of country styles that ranged from bluegrass to Cajun. Her second album, Grandpa's Advice, appeared in 1997 to critical acclaim, while Grey continued touring. ~ Steven McDonald, Rovi
