Canadian-born singer/songwriter Adrienne Pierce had already established herself as an artist to watch in her native Vancouver before inking a deal with Nettwerk in 2003. Her self-released debut, Small Fires, was nominated for Best Independent Album and Best Modern Rock Record for 2002 by The Georgia Straight and Just Plain Folks. Re-released in 2004, the album spawned a video for "Arizona" and was licensed to numerous Canadian television shows.
