Boston duo Aer consists of David von Mering and Carter Schultz. The boys introduced themselves to the world in 2010 with the project Water on the Moon, their second effort The Reach arrived in 2011. The duo released their music video for Feel I Bring this same year. Garnering thousands of views a day, “Feel I Bring” would end up with millions of views, quickly becoming the band’s first introduction to viral success. While gaining more attention from blogs, they independently released the EP What You Need just after graduating high school and living in Boston. Charging for their music for the first time, the EP would reach #1 on the iTunes Hip Hop charts independently. Less than a year later, Aer would release their debut album, the reggae-tinged, hip hop influenced “The Bright Side”. It reached #1 on the iTunes charts, all genres, and completely independently. The album featured the viral and now RIAA certified gold single “Floats My Boat”. Taking time to get their next album right, their self-titled follow up was released at the top of 2014. The project reached #26 on Billboard while the single “Says She Loves Me” received national XM radio airplay. Depicted by the band as a “darker, or more honest portrayal of our sound”. The New York Times characterized it “Slick, and smart”. The band toured extensively in North America and Europe to support the LP, with multiple sold out shows and festivals. On May 25th 2016, Aer announced an indefinite hiatus.
