Ailish Tynan

Soprano Ailish Tynan has a wide repertory stretching from Baroque to contemporary music, from song recitals to opera. She has an ongoing artistic relationship with composer <a href="spotify:artist:4AhGJX48US2OIdpSG7oo5c">Judith Weir</a>.

Tynan was born on May 30, 1975, in Mullingar in the Irish Midlands. She attended Trinity College, Dublin, the Royal Irish Academy of Music in Dublin, and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. Tynan's early career was boosted by showings at several major prize competitions, including a win at the RTÉ Millennium Singer of the Year event in 2000. In 2003, she won the Rosenblatt Recital Prize at the widely broadcast BBC Cardiff Singer of the World Competition. Tynan became part of the Vilar Young Artists Scheme, which brought with it performances at London's Covent Garden Opera House, and in 2003, she was named a BBC New Generation Artist by the Radio 3 network. In 2006, Tynan made her recording debut on the <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Signum%22">Signum</a> label, appearing on the album On Buying a Horse: The Songs of Judith Weir.

Tynan has performed widely both in opera and as a recitalist. Her opera credits include appearances at several major English houses, La Scala in Italy, the Houston Grand Opera, and the Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse in France. She has performed in concert with the <a href="spotify:artist:6D3rLhEkc3t1zLltUNOSxg">Prague Symphony Orchestra</a>, the <a href="spotify:artist:2Mi20SSCqDqjMRsJXHD72f">Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia</a>, and the <a href="spotify:artist:1XoXD9qLXeOBK6CtR2bbZQ">Frankfurt Radio Symphony</a>, as well as top British groups, including the <a href="spotify:artist:23BiSNXm5UaRFuusoWisYO">BBC Symphony</a>. Tynan's vocal recitals have covered composers ranging from <a href="spotify:artist:2p0UyoPfYfI76PCStuXfOP">Schubert</a> to <a href="spotify:artist:2gClsBep1tt1rv1CN210SO">Fauré</a> to <a href="spotify:artist:4AhGJX48US2OIdpSG7oo5c">Weir</a>, whose 2015 song cycle Nuits d'Afrique was written for her, and she has attracted top accompanists such as <a href="spotify:artist:31RaT1FwiadCsY9LLpdLGw">Graham Johnson</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:46zUU6NYYxTFinZbVTp4sT">Iain Burnside</a>, and <a href="spotify:artist:7tH81sPZehGPeo2VIR5WKS">Simon Lepper</a>, often performing at London's Wigmore Hall.
