He was born in 1957. His mother's name is Fehime. His father is Aziz Çekirge, a well-known bağlama master from Urfa . He completed primary, secondary and high school in Şanlıurfa. He is married with four children. Since his father made and sold bağlamas, he met music in his father's shop and was involved with it throughout his life. He learned how to play the bağlama and the Urfa style in long air openings from his father. He played the bağlama on all school nights during his school years. After finishing school, he accompanied many celebrities such as Seyfettin Sucu , İbrahim Tatlıses , Halil Kendirli and Mahmut Tuncer on stage with his bağlama.
