Born and raised in Los Angeles, Al Hazan started writing songs when in his teens.
One of his first songs, "The Dance of Love", was recorded by The Bell Sisters in 1953, but it was not released. The first song he had released was "Is There a Heaven" by Russell Arms.

Hazan left the music business in mid-1960s. He became a real estate broker, an author, a fashion photographer, and returned to college to earn a Ph.D. in Psychology in 1990.
