Al Park has been a fixture and guide through nearly five decades of Christchurch music. A founder of the cities earliest punk venue ‘Mollet St.’, a guardian of the greatest records at Echo Records, and one of the cities longest serving front-men with Louie and the Hotsticks and The Latter Day Sinners, Al has also been a sensei and voice of reason to some of its strongest exports (Marlon Williams, Aldous Harding, Delaney Davidson, the Adams McGrath and Hattaway).
The past five years have found him (with encouragement from the aforementioned artists) focusing on his own songs and recordings; and this winter sees the release of his third record in almost as many years ‘Monkey’.
Full of energy, joy and deep reflection ‘Monkey’ traces not only a man still in love with song but one who has become a part of the fabric and story of the city and land in which has grown and shared so much with.
‘Monkey’ like Al himself proves to be a truthful treasure, worthy of not just your ears but also your heart.
